A rare Ferrari 250 LM from 1964, recently sold for $ 36 million at RM Sotheby’s Paris Auction, was seen near Ferrari’s Maranello head office before the historical sale.
The classic racing car, known for its victory over the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1965, was recorded on video that Ferrari’s iconic factory gate left, with the yellow prancing horse emblem. The images, shared on social media, sent enthusiasts in a frenzy, because one of Ferrari’s most celebrated models made a rare public appearance.
Prior to the auction, the 250 LM underwent an extensive inspection in the Ferrari facilities, thereby guaranteeing the authenticity and unspoilt condition of the vehicle. For 54 years this specific chassis was housed in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum before it was released on the market, so that global attention was drawn to collectors.
Ferrari only produced 32 examples of the 250 LM, making it one of the rarest and most coveted models in the history of the automaker. The inheritance of the car was cemented in 1965 when it became the last Ferrari who won an outright victory at Le Mans, powered by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt in a private effort.
The selling price of $ 36 million underlines the lasting value of Ferrari Motorsport Heritage.
