San Francisco 49ers NFL OffSeason Preview: Brock Purdy’s extension is in the spotlight

2024 season: 6-11, fourth in NFC West, missed Play-Offs

Overview: The low season of Brock Purdy has arrived. The 49 people were unable to secure a super bowl title during the discount window of Purdy’s Rookie contract (four years, $ 3.7 million). While he is approaching the last year of that deal, Purdy is one of the largest wage increases in competition history.

The 49 people are fully expected to give him that elevation. So how big will Purdy secure? Tua Tagovailoa ($ 53.1 million), Trevor Lawrence ($ 55 million), Jordan Love ($ 55 million) and Jared Goff ($ 53 million) have all signed recent extensions of more than $ 53 million annual salary with the contract that contract he signed in September.

What Purdy stands out for that spectrum will be up to him and the 49 people, but he will not be cheap after he has led his team to a super bowl and two NFC champion competitions in his first three seasons as a professional. There is much more to be tackled in a critical 49 people out of season, but everything else is secondary to Purdy.

CB Charvarius Ward
LG Aaron Banks
Lb de’evondre Campbell
LB Dre GreenLaw
RB Jordan Mason (Limited)
S Talanoa Hufanga

Who is in/out: GreenLaw and Hufanga are important defenders who each come with an extensive injury history. GreenLaw missed most of 2024 with an Achilles, while a wrist injury and restoration of an ACL Tear Limited Hufanga this season. The 49 people have a lot to consider when calculating the future of each player with the team.

The 49 people signed Cornerback Deommodore Lenoir for an extension of $ 92 million in November that Ward could make less priority. Given the injury history of Christian McCaffrey and the performance of Mason in his place in 2024, the 49 people would certainly want to keep Mason. The price can ultimately be too high for matching, and Mason could in exchange provide San Francisco valuable design capital as a limited free agent.

Why the holes? The 49ers need upgrades on both lines after shortcomings in the trenches played a major role in their disappointing season 2024. When benches enter a free desk, that is also a hole that they have to fill in the front in addition to potential upgrades in the middle and the right one Tackle next to an aging Trent Williams.

The 49 people arranged in the lower third part of the competition in bags in 2024 and need a young playmaker opposite Nick Bosa.

The 49 people enter the low season with an estimated $ 44 million in salary capace, the 12th most in the NFL, per spotrac. Purdy’s assumed Deal will eat a considerable part of that space.

Wr Deebo Samuel Sr.
DT Javon Hargrave

Why they might be gone: Samuel, who turns 29 in January, is approaching the third year of a three -year contract of $ 71 million on which he no longer plays. Moreover, he wants a change of environment. The 49 people have invested elsewhere by a broad recipient in Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings. If they cannot find a trading partner, the retention or cutting of Samuel would have significant implications of the salary hood, and the 49 people will be in a binding to find out the best option.

Hargrave, 31, is not the same player he was when the 49 people signed him for a four -year contract of $ 84 million as a free agent in 2023, and the 49ers restructured his deal to create a potential in June. He and Samuel are part of a trend of expensive aging players who hoped to have helped the 49ers that they would now have helped in a super bowl title.

Kelvin Banks JR, OL, Texas

Why he? There will be competition for left -wing guard Aaron Banks in free agency. Correct Tackle Colton McKivitz will play in the second year of a two -year contract of $ 4.6 million; The 49 people should consider a long -term upgrade in the position. And Trent Williams is not becoming younger. Banks is one of the best rulers in the design and can play in several places on the attacking line. He would be an ideal fit in San Francisco.

Following the recovery of Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk will also be important, but the possibility that Deebo Samuel Sr. departs an important needle -mover. The 49 people have a potential this season and there would be major consequences if Samuel was traded or released. George Kittle, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall would get significant fantasy boosters if San Francisco continues through Samuel during the low season. —Dalton del Don
