CDC reports the outbreak of gastro -intestinal diseases about the appearance of the cruise ship

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a gastrointestinal disease has broken out on the Radiance of the Seas Cruise Ship.

About 89 of the 2,164 passengers on board were hit by the outbreak on the Royal Caribbean International Ship, the CDC said. That is approximately 4.1% of the passengers. Only two of the 910 crew members have reported symptoms.

The CDC has not indicated which type of gastro -intestinal disease this is. The dominant reported symptoms were diarrhea and vomiting, the health agency said.

This specific trip for Radiance of the Seas started on 1 February and is scheduled for Saturday. The outbreak was reported on Tuesday to the Sanitation Program of the CDC ship. According to the CruiseMapper website, Radiance of the Seas Tampa, Florida, with various approach ports in the Western Caribbean.

The CDC said that the sick passengers and crew are isolated from the rest of the people on the ship. The ship also has “raised cleaning and disinfection procedures” and “collected stool specimens … for testing.”

In an e -mailed reaction to CNN Travel, a spokesperson for the Royal Caribbean Group said: “Improved measures were implemented on board in an abundance of caution to protect the health and comfort of all our guests and crew.”

The Sanitation program of the ship said in his report that “Norovirus is often a cause of gastrointestinal outbreaks on cruise ships, but we do not always know the cause of the outbreak when we start an investigation. Finding the agent who caused an outbreak (causal agent) can take time. ”

Norovirus cases started to rise at the beginning of 2025 and 2024 was the worst year in more than a decade for belly bugs on cruise ships.
