While the Dodge Durango has been used in police work in the past, because the current charger is retiring, some agencies rely more on the crossover. An example is the State Police of Indiana, which has supplied dozens of its new Durangos aside thanks to an oil and coolant problem.
See how some lawn mowers are taken back.
A report from FOX59 says that a mysterious mechanical problem has led to the oil and coolant mixing. Although that can be caused by a few problems, if we had to go on a limb, we would go with a bloated gasket.
The report also says that the problem “irreparably ruins the engine”. Instead of coincidentally, ISP has parked dozens of Durangos until it can find out how the problem can be repeated. Of those who has spent it on Troopers, around 20% have so far failed. That is not great statistics.
The State Police of Indiana has contacted Stellantis to request a solution. It is said that there is no clear plan to tackle the problem, so it seems that the Durangos are now parked.
What is interesting is that troopers had no problems with the Dodge Chargers that they have been using for years. They turned out to be reliable vehicles day in day out. And as we have seen again and again, they are excellent for chasing and stopping fleeing suspects.
That is why it is shocking about major problems with the Durango. Everyone can have his debate about which of the big three is the best, but so far we have not seen a failure percentage of 20%, so far.
A representative of ISP told FOX59 that the law enforcement agency is in conversation with other car manufacturers, because it tries to determine the best way ahead. Although we have never heard of these kinds of problems from other police services, this could not only be an ISP thing to cause a shift in the market for law enforcement agencies, perhaps to go to Ford or GM.
