The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series 2024. It was not very close, and the Dodgers made people there consciously afterwards.
It appears that Yankees manager Aaron Boone did not enjoy that part. Speaking at the opening of New York spring training, Boone said he hopes that it is the Yankees who win the World Series this year, and that they do it with “a little more class”.
The full context of that shade:
‘I don’t like hearing [the Dodgers’ trash talk]But the reality is that we did not play our best in the series and they have won. They have the right to say anything. Hopefully we will be in that position next year and treat things with a little more class. The reality is that it is a great team, it is a great organization with many great people I happen to know and respect. A few people who leave is not necessarily how I would like to set it up, but they are the champions. They have that right. “
Grace against their opponent was certainly one of the few areas where the Dodgers did not succeed against their opponent, not that it makes no huge difference.
Dodgers Utility Man Chris Taylor had some of the toughest words on the Podcast “On Base with Mookie Betts” by Bleacher Report after the World Series Parade, and noted the defensive misery of the Yankees:
“Everyone saw it. The kind of s *** over their legs … It was like one thing after the next. I think our energy in Dugout was feeding that a bit. It was as if we have to do the only thing we have to do is Put the ball in the game now.
Reliever Joe Kelly, currently a free agent also enjoyed the difference in implementation between the Dodgers and Yankees:
“We said it every game, just let them throw the ball to the inner field. They can’t make a play. I mean, you saw, Shohei got an extra base to third place of a sloppy gleyber [Torres] play. It is known. We all knew it. We are the Dodgers, we know every small detail. But beyond that it was a nice series. They got stuck almost a few wins … It was just a mismatch from the start. If we have arranged a play-off again, they can be arranged the eighth or ninth best Playoff team.
Those are the comments that Boone may have referred, and he answered by pointing out that Taylor and Kelly were not exactly the boys who won the game for the Dodgers:
‘You didn’t hear of the [Freddie] Freemans, [Mookie] Betts, [Shohei] Ohtanis and [Clayton] Kershaws, or whatever in the world. Sometimes you come out of the drunkenness of winning a world championship and some guys are more inclined to spray and be a little more colorful than others. Again, that’s their right. They won. Hopefully we are in that position and do things a little better. ‘
Of course, the Dodgers’ waste is a symptom of a greater problem for the Yankees, in particular Boone. All the spot that came from Los Angeles is a product of the fact that the Dodgers were specifically told that the Yankees were so bad in basic and defense, they just had to stay on the race and let the mistakes take place.
That does not reflect well on the manager of the aforementioned team, and the Yankees did not give much reason to expect that that would change. They added some talent after losing Juan Soto, but their coaching staff is almost unchanged.
The Yankees have things to work on, although it is worth remembering that they were a winning game 1 of the World Series, a hit of winning game 2 and one of the three plays of ending those Fifth inning in game 5. Then the Dodgers are executed, and here we are. It is clear that the Dodgers will loom over the Yankees until New York finds a way to surpass them, although that will clearly not be done by publishing them.
The Yankees are currently +800 per Betmgm to win the World Series, the best number in MLB behind, you guessed it, the Dodgers on +250.
